DC Council Approves "Death with Dignity" Bill

Today, Washington, DC is one step closer to legalizing medical aid in dying for terminally ill patients. Members of the DC Council voted 11-2 on Tuesday to approve the “Death with Dignity” bill.  Council members will vote on it again before sending it to Democratic Mayor Muriel Bowser.  But the margin is veto-proof.

The 11-2 vote makes the district the first majority black community to move toward passing such a bill and could make D.C. the sixth jurisdiction in the United States with a right-to-die law in place.

In addition to this development in DC, I expect that Colorado voters will approve Proposition 106 a week from today, thereby enacting the End of Life Options Act.
