Autonomy of Medical Profession Honored over Individual Autonomy

I like this sentence in Sara Rosenbaum’s chapter in the new second edition of  Medical Management of Vulnerable and Underserved Patients: Principles, Practice and Populations.

“The laws of a nation are a reflection of its core values. In the United States, the autonomy of the medical profession has been honored above the right of health care for individuals.”
