Parents Sue Hospital for Not Resuscitating 22-Week Gestation Babies

Dianne Radke and Christopher Swann are suing Logan Hospital in Queensland for failing to resuscitate their 22-week gestation twin babies in May 2017.

Clinicians reportedly told the mother: “we’ll deliver them and place them on your chest and you can give them cuddles and say goodbye.”

The hospital’s refusal may have been consistent with applicable guidelines in Queensland.  But those guidelines may be outdated.  More recent studies (and here and here) show some success at resuscitating 22-week.  Indeed, the plaintiffs’ own twins were delivered and are alive, though with serious health issues.
