Compassion & Choices Expands Focus on Dementia

Compassion & Choices is best known for its efforts to affirmatively legalize medical aid in dying. But in none of the seven states with MAID statutes is MAID available for those with advanced dementia (video here). These patients cannot simultaneously satisfy two eligibility requirements: (1) be terminally ill and (2) have decision making capacity.

Therefore, I was delighted to read in Spring 2018 Compassion & Choices Magazine that the organization will work to “create additional tools and resources to help people with dementia get the care they want and have a more peaceful end-of-life experience”
