Nurse Accused of Fatally Poisoning Elderly Patient Says End-of-Life Care Was Tough

Japanese police are investigating 31-year-old nurse Ayumi Kuboki for murdering two patients.

Sozo Nishikawa and Nobuo Yamaki died at the Yokohama Hajime Hospital in Yokohama in September 2016 after being administered a high concentration of the disinfectant Germitol,

Koboki confessed that she poisoned more than twenty patients who were seriously ill. She explained: “It was tough to carry out end-of-life care work,” and “I didn’t like my job as I had to frequently comply with requests from patients.”

Koboki wanted to make sure that the patients died when she was not on duty so that she would not have to explain the circumstances of their deaths to their families.
