The Oregon Health Authority has released its 21st annual report on the Death with Dignity Act, reporting 2018 data.

In 2018, 249 people received prescriptions under the DWDA. That compares to 219 during 2017. Fewer than 2/3 of those who got prescriptions died from ingesting the prescribed medications. OHA reports 168 deaths, including 11 who had received the prescriptions in previous years.

Characteristics of DWDA patients were similar to those in previous years: most patients were aged 65 years or older (79.2%), and most had cancer (62.5%).

During 2018, two physicians were referred to the Oregon Medical Board for failure to comply with DWDA requirements.
