On April 4, 2019, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s Roundtable on Quality Care for People with Serious Illness will host a public workshop, Improving Access to and Equity of Care for People with Serious Illness.
The workshop aims to explore the challenges that impede access to care and impact health equity for people with serious illness. The workshop also will examine opportunities to improve access and advance health equity such as strategies to build trust and engage patients, families, and caregivers in diverse cultural ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic environments.
The speakers will identify models of care delivery that serve vulnerable populations with serious illness, including community-level interventions, such as partnerships with faith-based organizations, and will identify potential policy opportunities and areas for further research.
