Patients at Anne Arundel Medical Center and Doctors Community Hospital in Maryland may have no visitors unless the patient qualifies for an exception. In that case, only one visitor per day is allowed. And even that is permitted only if the visitor passes a health screening.

One of the exceptions is for people who serve as a surrogate decision-maker for an incapacitated patient. But the Baltimore Sun reports that this exception applies only when the surrogate must be “physically present to engage in the decision-making process.” Since that is almost never required, surrogates may not be allowed to visit unless they fall within another exception.
