Research Associate, Law and EthicsNeuroethics New Emerging Team ProjectHealth Law Institute, Dalhousie University(Five-year term appointment with probationary period)DescriptionThis individual will act as a Research Associate for the newly-funded CIHR Neuroethics New Emerging Team (NET). The Research Associate will work with the Principal Investigator and the rest of the NET developing expertise in the area of neuroimaging ethics, law, and policy. (i.e., ethics, law and policy relating to the development and use of technology to produce images of brain structure, chemistry, and function.) Specifically, this will include work on the three inaugural projects for the NET: laying the foundation on legal and ethical issues regarding MRI research involving humans (Project One); minimizing discomfort and maximizing MRI scanning success for children (Project Two); and sedation guidelines for paediatric MRI research (Project Three). The objective of the position is to facilitate the realization of the research goals of the NET and to enable a promising young academic to establish a vibrant research track record and to be a part of the dynamic team working on the projects making up the Dalhousie University Health Law Institute research platform.Role and Responsibilities o Maintain sound working knowledge of all of the NET projects o Work with the Project One team (see above) on all aspects of this project o Work with the Projects Two and Three teams (see above) on legal and ethical issues arising in these specific projects Education and Experience o LLM OR LLB plus a Masters degree in a related discipline OR doctorate in Philosophy (ethics) o Strong research and communication skills o Strong time management and organizational skills o Ability to work well independently within a team environment o Experience with collaborative multidisciplinary research projects (desirable) Start DateThe start date for this position is negotiable (at the latest July 1, 2005).SalaryCommensurate with experience and qualifications.Applicants should submit a cover letter and a curriculum vitae BY EMAIL to Jocelyn Downie at jocelyn.downie@dal.ca.
