Detailed Description
Position description: The incumbent will serve as the coordinator for empirical bioethics research projects and community consultation activities related to Mayo Clinic’s on-going efforts in biobanking, and for more conceptual projects on ethical issues in DNA biobanking.
Qualifications: Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree in appropriate health-related field with extensive knowledge of human subjects research study design. Candidates must have demonstrated interest and experience in working with ethical issues related to biobanking and personalized medicine. Experience in social science research methods or empirical bioethics research strongly encouraged. Experience in working with biospecimens or banked tissue would be advantageous.
Must have demonstrated the capacity to identify and comprehend complex organizational structures and connections and organize and direct several projects simultaneously. Must be able to make immediate competent judgments in administrating numerous aspects of projects. Extensive knowledge of data management and computer systems is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Must be self-directed in organizing/directing numerous aspects of a research program, policy review, or facilitating the development of new policies and procedures.
Responsibilities: Independently critiques, edits, analyzes, and makes recommendations about research protocols and procedures related to biobanking, based on findings from ethics studies and community engagement activities. Reviews literature and assesses the state of the field nationally and internationally. Actively participates in the intellectual life of the Program in Professionalism and Bioethics by attending seminars and events. Is an expert resource to troubleshoot and resolve problems. Authors/co-authors manuscripts and presentations.
