Detailed Description
SVSU seeks an experienced, creative, and energetic individual to
develop the substantive area of ethics at the University as the James V.
Finkbeiner Endowed Chair in Ethics. This renewable position requires the
individual to play a key collaborative role in the development of
inter-disciplinary linkages related to ethics among programs across the various
colleges of the University and to the region it serves.
The successful candidate will possess a solid record of teaching and
scholarship in an area related to ethics and must have exceptional organization
and planning skills. S/he will be an effective communicator and relationship
builder and have the ability to work with a variety of constituencies, from
administrators, faculty and students to foundations, businesses and government
entities.
The Finkbeiner Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Behavioral
Sciences. Responsibilities encompassed in this position include the following:
- Develop and implement a research program in ethics involving faculty
colleagues and students
- Secure grant funding for research and/or program development in ethics
- Organize activities that foster consideration of ethical issues by the
University and the communities it serves
- Provide active service to the University and the region especially in areas
relevant to ethics
- Teach ethics-related courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels
coordinated through the appropriate departments.
