The Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society at Vanderbilt University Medical Center invites applications for an assistant professor rank tenure-track or clinician-educator faculty position in the School of Medicine for candidates with MD or PhD. The Department of primary appointment will be determined by clinical discipline and/or research interests. Candidates with interests in bioethics along  with research interests in personalized medicine using patients’ individual characteristics, including their genetic makeup, to tailor their care are particularly desired. This position requires advanced training in ethics, experience teaching ethics in a health science setting, the capacity for independent research in healthcare ethics, and interest in serving on the Center’s active ethics consult service. A successful candidate should either have experience in clinical ethics consultation or be willing to undergo training to become an ethics consultant.

The mission of the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society is to provide leadership in education, research, and clinical service at Vanderbilt University Medical Center concerning the ethical, legal, and social dimensions of medicine, health care, and health policy. The Center is committed to multi-disciplinary exploration of the individual and social values, cultural dynamics, and legal and professional standards that characterize and influence clinical practice and biomedical research. The Center aims to be a catalyst for collaboration in teaching, research, and practice at Vanderbilt and to contribute to scholarship and policy making from the local to the international level.
