Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Bioethics has an open position for a clinical ethicist whose primary responsibilities will be to provide consultation for patients, families, and healthcare providers at the bedside. Candidates should be able to demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm for providing high-quality clinical ethics consultation and bring a unique set of skills and experience that they can leverage into clinical ethics-based initiatives.

The successful applicant will join the Professional Staff (equivalent to Faculty) and will support the ethics consultation service with opportunities to promote ethics programming across the multinational healthcare system, while exemplifying collegiality, intra-professional teamwork, patient-facing communication, and leadership.

Responsibilities:
As a member of the Center for Bioethics, a Staff Ethicist will:
– Deliver high-quality ethics consultation across Northeast Ohio by contributing to the high-volume, fast-paced Ethical Consultation Service (700+ consults/year).
– Maintain professional development by staying up to date on literature and developments in the field of bioethics, engaging in the local and national bioethics community, and working to enhance professional skills.
– Contribute bioethics skills and knowledge through mentorship, collaboration, and education aimed at various audiences.

Qualifications:
– A terminal degree (PhD, JD, MD/DO, DNP, or field-specific equivalent) is required.
– Demonstrated evidence of professional experience working in clinical environments, providing high-quality ethics consultation, and robust academic achievement.
– Excellent oral and written communication skills, proficiency with telecommunication technology, extensive experience in education and mentoring, and a collaborative workstyle.
– The successful candidate will be expected to embrace Cleveland Clinic’s patient-centered values: quality and safety, empathy, teamwork, integrity, inclusion, and innovation.
– Formal fellowship training or extensive experience in clinical ethics consultation is strongly preferred.
