The Center serves the needs of the UCLA Health’s three hospitals, including clinical ethics consultation, teaching clinical ethics, supporting three ethics committees, and collaboratively developing and reviewing policy. The volume and complexity of UCLA ethics consultation, which includes transplant, trauma, oncology, psychiatry, neurology, neonatology and pediatrics, affords the successful candidate an unrivaled opportunities in this field. The goal of the responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Provide clinical ethics consultation and on-call coverage for the ethics consultation service to Ronald Reagan-UCLA Medical Center, Neuropsychiatric Hospital and Santa Monica-UCLA Hospital. Participate in ethics rounds. Participate in the three UCLA Health System Ethics Committees. Collaborate in policy development activities. Collaborate in developing ethics education programs for clinicians, staff, and students. Participate in educational activities and mentorship of Ethics Fellows. Collaborate in ethics scholarship, with dissemination of work through publication and national presentations. Qualifications: The successful candidate must have a PhD in bioethics or a PhD in philosophical ethics with a bioethics-related dissertation and have completed a clinical ethics fellowship (one year minimum) or have substantial experience in clinical ethics consultation. Having a strong commitment to the professionalization of clinical ethics, the ideal candidate is one who is adept in critical and creative thinking. They must be able to navigate complex ethical issues as they arise in the clinical setting, combining a theoretical and practical approach. The ability to integrate cross-cultural care, end of life/palliative care, psychosocial and spiritual care into clinical care is critical to this role. We are searching for compassionate and empathic professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A strong interest in collaborative and interdisciplinary work is required, as well as mentoring and teaching skills. Excellent salary and benefits, two-year contract.
