Cincinnati Children’s invites applications for a faculty position in clinical ethics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The faculty member’s primary responsibility will be clinical ethics consultation. The successful candidate will also support specialty areas, such as the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, and the Disorders of Sexual Development Clinic, in identifying and addressing ethical issues.
Cincinnati Children’s is ranked #3 in the U.S. News and World Report’s 2019-20 Honor Roll Rankings, and all 10 of its specialties ranked in the top 10. Cincinnati Children’s has 700 registered beds on 3 campuses, and more than 1.2 million patient encounters last year.
Ideal candidates will hold a MD, PhD, and/or JD related to bioethics, have been certified as a Healthcare Ethics Consultant, and possess the ability to perform clinical ethics consultations independently. Clinicians are expected to demonstrate excellence in patient care. Candidates must also have demonstrated ability to teach multiple disciplines at an academic medical center, as well as design and conduct research, and publish in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in pediatric and/or nursing ethics is desirable.
Primary academic appointment will be in a relevant department. Approximately 60% of the faculty member’s effort will be dedicated to the Ethics Center. The balance of salary support will be through clinical practice, teaching, and/or extramural grant funding. Joint appointment in a relevant department at the University of Cincinnati is possible for candidates with appropriate training and experience.
