Clinical Ethicist – Ethics Department, 20 hours (benefits eligible)

The Clinical Ethicist will be responsible for:

Providing formal and informal ethics consultations, organizing and participating in clinical ethics rounds, and collaborating with clinical teams, patients and families, managers, and consultants to address ethical issues in pediatric health care and research.
Developing ethics resources and education for the Ethics Advisory Committee, organizational ethics task forces, ethics scholars/fellows, residents and other students, staff, and patients and families at the Hospital, and serving as a facilitator for change directed toward strengthening the hospital’s moral community.
Participating in development and review of hospital policies involving ethical considerations.
Remaining current in the fields of bioethics, health law, philosophy, and religious ethics.

In order to qualify, you must have:

The knowledge of theories, principles and concepts typically acquired through completion of a graduate degree in ethics, bioethics, or moral philosophy.
A working knowledge of health care and hospitals or clinical degree in a health professional field.
Five or more years of experience in clinical bioethics, preferably in hospital or health delivery systems.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills in order to mediate moral disagreements or concerns and develop consensus, compromises, or other ethically acceptable resolutions.
Sensitivity in speaking with parents, patients, staff and others in stressful circumstances, in discussing ethical decisions regarding life support, dying and death, disclosure of bad news, participation in research, organ donation and transplantation, and other matters often involving potential conflicts of interests and values.
Demonstrated ability in multidisciplinary collaboration and the ability to initiate, prioritize, and manage multiple projects, working across departmental lines of authority and accountability and under pressure to meet deadlines.
The ability to motivate and manage employees, committee members, a volunteer staff, and consultants.
