Details:
Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) is a not-for-profit health system headquartered in Annapolis, Maryland that serves a population of one million people. We are nationally recognized for our joint replacement center, emergency heart attack response and cancer care. Also a leader in women’s services, we rank second in Maryland for number of births annually and have a Level III neonatal intensive care unit. With more than 1,000 medical staff members, we consistently receive awards for quality, patient satisfaction and innovation. With an annual operating revenue of $695 million, AAMC has 4,700 employees and 425 total licensed beds. Each year our providers care for 26,000 inpatient admissions and 924,000 outpatient visits. The health system has recently established a residency training program in general surgery, and the process of developing residency training in OB/GYN and internal medicine is underway.

Newly created in 2016, the ethics program enjoys robust support from administrative leadership. Drawing upon AAMC’s Magnet recognition by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, it has developed a nurse-centric and proactive approach to early identification of ethical dilemmas in clinical care. As a result, there has been an exponential growth in the number of ethics consultations and AAMC is dedicated to building upon that success by expanding ethical capability and humanism in patient care throughout the health system.
