Philosophical Bioethics Research Associate The Baylor College of Medicine Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy is hiring a part-time (up to 15 hours per week) Research Associate for assistance with various tasks associated with a “Philosophical Bioethics Boot Camp,” a program funded by the Greenwall Foundation to increase the quantity and quality of normative and conceptual work in the field of Bioethics.
The primary focus of the program, led by Dr. Jennifer Blumenthal-Barby, is a monthly seminar series in philosophical bioethics for current and future academic leaders in the field of bioethics who are members of the prestigious Greenwall Faculty Scholars Program. The program will also include a parallel series for select Fellows in the field of bioethics who do not have strong background or training in philosophical bioethics. A second major focus of the program is to equip and encourage participants to build philosophical bioethics (concepts, rigor of argument) into their scholarship through introduction to core philosophical concepts or articles that may be relevant and with assistance in tightening and strengthening conceptual analyses and arguments in their papers.
Primary duties and responsibilities: • Literature searches to identify, retrieve, and in some cases summarize relevant articles for the seminar discussions and for individual participants’ projects. • Help plan and prepare for a workshop or conference for leaders in the field of philosophical bioethics that is tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2019. • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: • PhD or PhD Candidate in Philosophy with an AOS in Bioethics, Applied Ethics, or Ethics. • Capable of multi-tasking effectively, prioritizing complex deliverables, and working independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines. • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. • Candidate should be extremely dependable and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
