McGill Biomedical Ethics Unit / Studies of Translation, Ethics, and Medicine (STREAM) is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research fellow (PDF) with a background in judgment and decision-making. Special consideration will be given to candidates knowledgeable in research ethics, statistics, or meta-science.
The project will examine how researchers make judgments and forecasts about risk, benefit, and priorities in drug development- and whether there are ways to improve the effectiveness of their decision-making.
The PDF will work under the supervision of Jonathan Kimmelman, alongside several
collaborators (David Mandel, Russell Steele, and Mike Yu). Responsibilities will include designing and implementing expert elicitation protocols, performing analysis, and evaluating policy and ethical dimensions. The PDF is encouraged to develop their own research within the scope of the project, and to publish both team and independently authored manuscripts.
We anticipate a starting date of Spring or Summer 2018, depending on availability**. The successful candidate should have recently been awarded their PhD (within 4 years*) in a relevant area. The term of hiring is one year, renewable for up to one additional year pending eligibility.
Review of applications will proceed on a rolling basis and will continue until the position is filled.
Applications should include a cover letter describing research interests, a CV that specifies the date of their PhD and citizenship, a writing sample, and the contact information for 3 references.
Applications should be sent electronically to:
