Professorship (W2, for 5 years) for “Ethics in Medicine”

commencing as soon as possible.

Health services research is one of the main research foci of the newly established School of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Department will fully cover the field of health services research with several professorships and diverse cooperations, thus providing a unique environment for the further academic development of the field in the sectors of ambulant and in-patient care. Important partners are the hospitals within the Medical Campus University Oldenburg, the other departments of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, in particular the Department of Neurosciences and the Department of Psychology, a supra-regional network of medical practices, the Institute of Philosophy, the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, the Jade University of Applied Science as well as regional care providers.

We look for an internationally renowned personality with an outstanding profile in research, publications and acquisition of third-party funds. Expertise in the fields of logical analyses, ethical evaluation and assessment of implications, specifically of technique-based health care concepts and the integration into normative-ethical theories is expected. Research expertise in for instance human-machine-interactions, decision making based on innovative technologies and the impact on patients, society and the health care system, thus providing scientific support for the implementation of health care innovations, should be demonstrated by publications and projects. A strong methodical expertise regarding these topics and the participation in national and international research consortia is of advantage. The appointed professor is expected to fully cover the topics and methods within the field „history, theory and ethics in medicine” in teaching, including an active commitment to newly established forms of knowledge transfer and a participation in the development of new study and graduate programs related to health services research. Preconditions for employment are specified in § 25 NHG.
