Research Assistant / Neuroethics Research
The Baylor College of Medicine Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy is hiring a full-time Research Assistant for a non-laboratory research position. The Research Assistant will work with a team conducting NIH-funded research on ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of developments in psychiatric genomics and neuroscience.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
• Provide assistance with and contribute to qualitative and quantitative studies of ELSI issues in new and ongoing research projects
• Assist with development of survey instruments and interview guides for new projects
• Conduct data collection and analysis
• Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study
• Oversee data collection and management to ensure quality of data, and identify and address issues as they arise
• Build reports based on findings for research team and collaborators
• Prepare and assist with preparation of papers and presentations for dissemination of findings
• Help prepare and submit materials as needed to the Institutional Review Board and funding agencies
• Performs other job related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Required:
o Master’s degree in one of the social sciences, public health, bioethics or related field
o Minimum one-year relevant experience in conducting social science or bioethics research
o Bachelor's degree in one of the social sciences, public health, bioethics or related field and two years of directly related experience is considered equivalent to a Master's degree.
• Strong qualitative and/or quantitative data analysis skills (e.g., MAXQDA, SPSS, STATA)
• Demonstrated analytical and written communication skills, including proficiency in academic writing
• Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills
• Capable of multi-tasking effectively, prioritizing complex deliverables, and working
independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
• Candidate should be extremely dependable and detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
