Research Associate in Biomedical Ethics

for two years (option for renewal), starting immediately. Salary depending on qualifications: TVL E13 100%.

The candidate will work within a research project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) “COMParative ASSessment of Genome- and Epigenome-Editing in Medicine: Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (COMPASS-ELSI)”. This interdisciplinary project will investigate and evaluate the normative dimensions of Genome and Epigenome Editing in Medicine against the background of the national and international ethical and legal debate. The legal part will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Ralf Müller-Terpitz, Chair of Public Law, Law of Economic Regulation and Media at the Faculty of Law and Economics, University of Mannheim.
In addition to the close interaction between ethics and law, the project will collaborate with Prof. Karafyllis (applying the philosophy of language and hermeneutics to natural science discourse), Philosophy Department at the University of Braunschweig and the colleagues of the bioscientific editing projects. The results will not only be published but discussed with an international advisory board and should result in recommendations for responsible use of the new techniques.

Requirements:
Candidates should:
- Hold a degree in philosophy, bioethics or a related discipline (completed doctorate is an asset)
- Possess strong analytical skills as well as demonstrate an interest in interdisciplinary projects and teamwork (project-related publication is primarily teamwork)
- Demonstrate experience in conducting and publishing research (at an international level would be an asset)
- Be fluent in English – knowledge of German is an asset
- Be encouraged to apply for competitive grants
