Trauma Informed and Violence Prevention research position- Tenure Track Faculty Position
Summary of Position
The Center for Urban Bioethics within the Department of Urban Health and Population Science at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine (LKSOM) at Temple University invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant and/or Associate Professor levels whose research program is in the field of Trauma Informed Violence Prevention. The new tenure track position will concentrate on how generational trauma and childhood adversity has contributed significantly to the lack of health equity in urban, distressed communities. We will also study interpersonal violence as a public health epidemic researching evidence based and evidence informed programming to examine best practices to decrease violence in urban centers.
The Center for Urban Bioethics at Temple University was established in 2010 and has quickly become a leader and pioneer in the field, creating the first Master of Arts degree program in Urban Bioethics in the country. We have established a unique foothold within the world of bioethics.
The Center consists 8 core faculty members, a number of affiliated faculty, and over 40 staff from a variety of disciplines, including physicians, clinicians, juris doctorates, social workers, anthropologists, community health workers community advocates, and other partners. We have funding from many different sources including federal, state, and local funders. Having the Center rooted in community engagement is paramount. Therefore, community residents are central to the design, implementation and evaluation of our programs – and we employ key staff from the North Philadelphia community who enhance the credibility and effectiveness of our research, programs and educational initiatives.

Candidate Qualifications
- M.D., Ph.D., or M.D. /Ph.D. in the fields of Sociology, Social Welfare, Criminology, or Public Health.
- Academic credentials for a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
- A commitment to support and promulgate diversity among faculty, staff, students and patients.
- The applicant should be a skilled, accomplished researcher who has expertise in trauma informed work and in violence prevention.
- The applicant should have a clear familiarity with evidence based, public health approaches to violence prevention and trauma as well as a clear understanding of evidence based, sustainable trauma informed programming.
- The applicant should also have evidence of positive evaluation teaching professional students about trauma, trauma informed work, and violence prevention.
