The Faculty of Bioethics in collaboration with the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics and Human Rights – established within the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and the European University of Rome – organized the 19th  edition of the Summer Course in Bioethics with the title “Bioethics and Consciousness: interdisciplinary and interreligious reflections on an essential dimension of the human person”.

Translated simultaneously into Italian, English and Spanish, the appointment for the course is on 2, 3, 9 and 10 July from 15:30 to 18:30 Rome (from 9:30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. New York; from 2.30 p.m to 7:30 p.m. London)  via Webinar Zoom.

 Organized by the Neurobioethics Research Group (GDN), it involves the participation of all researchers and subgroups (in particular the one on consciousness).

The course will offer participants:
– the possibility of receiving a complete overview of the issue of Consciousness and Bioethics, and of reflecting on topical issues from the interdisciplinary and interreligious point of view;
– the skills needed to critically discern the multiple contemporary contexts in which Consciousness is invoked, in order to be able to ethically assess clinical protocols, legislative proposals, health applications, as well as the political, economic and social implications in this area.


Doctors and health care personnel; biologists, psychologists, psychiatrists and psychotherapists; educators and trainers (mainly lower and upper secondary school teachers); priests, catechists and other pastoral agents; lawyers and jurists, informers, journalists, communicators and sociologists and those who are interested in the current cultural and social dynamics and wish to receive an informed criterion and critical knowledge regarding the cutting-edge issues in biotechnology, ethics and society.                      



The course is structured in lessons, question-and-answer sessions, seminars, film forums and interactive group activities.
Professors and other experts will participate as speakers and moderators of group dynamics.


• All participants in the complete Webinar will receive a Certificate of Participation.
• To be entitled to the Certificate of Attendance (on request), 80% of attendance is mandatory.
• Webinar issues 1 ECTS credit.
