ELSI Student Researcher – Ethics and Health Policy

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a part-time  Student Helper (~10 hours/week) to provide research support in ethical, legal, and social implications  (ELSI) of genomics.

Primary duties and responsibilities: 

  • Provide assistance with and contribute to a qualitative study of ELSI issues in forensic use of  DNA 
  • Help with qualitative data management to ensure quality and identify and address issues as they  arise, including reviewing and editing transcripts for accuracy of data from qualitative interviews • Conduct literature searches and summarize information  
  • Build reports based on findings for research team and collaborators 
  • Assist with preparation of papers and presentations for dissemination of findings • Attend project meetings 
  • Other duties assigned 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Education Required: Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program in basic or health  sciences, sociology, philosophy, bioethics, or a related field required  

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and  communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to  meet deadlines 
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills  
  • Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to  effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues
