The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an experienced Research Administration Associate to manage research administration activities of the Center’s robust research portfolio. The Center currently has nine faculty who are conducting funded research across over 20 projects with over $3 million in research funding. This position reports to the Center’s Administrator.

The successful candidate will work closely with Center leadership and faculty accomplish the overall mission and goals of our research program.

Primary duties and responsibilities:
Pre-Award Activities
• Provides guidance to investigators for proposal development and submission by interpreting granting agency RFAs and guidelines
• Works with investigators to develop grant submissions for new, continuing and competing applications to include grant proposal preparation, budget preparation, completion of required forms, as well as other administrative aspects of the proposal process
• Reviews and approves grant and contract proposals to assure compliance with granting agency requirements
• Tracks and reports Center grant activity
• Collaborates with the Grants and Contracts Office to proactively keep departments apprised of changes in policies and regulations of federal and non-federal grantor agencies
Post-Award Activities
• Works with faculty to complete JIT requests and other information requests prior to grant set-up
• Works closely with faculty and research managers to manage expenditures in compliance with funding agency guidelines
• Reviews award documents for special terms and conditions, subcontract and reporting requirements
• Assists with the preparation of subcontract agreements in accordance with granting agency guidelines
• Assists faculty to process their research grant progress and financial reports due to sponsors
• Initiates and works with the Grants and Contracts Office to close out projects
• Oversees organization and maintenance of departmental files relating to external funding
• Represents department in a professional and appropriate manner within institution, as well as externally
• Works with Center Administrator to review expenditures and effort allocation

Other Responsibilities
• Work with faculty and research staff to set up IRB Protocols for new projects, assist with IRB amendments, and provide guidance and assistance in setting up SMART and Reliance IRBs
• Assist investigators with publications related to funded projects to ensure that publications are receiving PMC ID, and that NCBI bibliographies are current
• Work with Center communications manager to promote publications and other research activities
• Identify and advise investigators of funding opportunities from state, industry, private and federal agencies
• Ensures compliance with all BCM policies and practices; local, state, federal, agency and sponsor rules, regulations and requirements regarding grant and/or contract administration
• Resolves compliance problems and issues working in conjunction with faculty
• Assists faculty in the preparation of Other Support pages
• Serves as the primary resource for research administration and compliance guidance
• Develop centralized resources for faculty and staff
• Identifies areas for improvement in the Center’s research mission including using new technologies and process improvement
• Participate in research team meetings as needed to anticipate needs
• Assists with any departmental needs as required, to include special projects, financial and research reports

• Bachelor’s degree in business or related field required
• 2 Years of related experience
• CRA or CPRA certification preferred, but not required
• Demonstrated experience in project management, process improvement, planning, and execution
• Ability to display a professional, positive attitude with strong interpersonal skills and communication skills required and must be able to work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines
• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, efficient, and strong organizational skills
• Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in accepting work assignments with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, understand processes, and resolve issues

About the Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy
The Center for Medical Ethics & Health Policy comprises 14 faculty members, three of whom hold endowed positions, and 25 administrative, research and clinical ethics staff.
Our Center’s faculty teach in the undergraduate and graduate medical curricula, direct an award-winning Ethics Track for advanced medical students, and recently launched a new, comprehensive College-wide graduate medical education curriculum in ethics, professionalism, and health policy (EP3).
Center faculty lead clinical ethics consultations services at several premier private and public institutions across the Texas Medical Center, and are heavily involved in national clinical ethics initiatives and training, in addition to serving in national leadership positions in clinical ethics.
Center faculty are also actively engaged in funded research supported by NHGRI and NCI of the NIH, PCORI, and private foundations. Two of the Center’s faculty have been recipients of Faculty Scholars Awards from the Greenwall Foundation. Our faculty have published extensively in peer reviewed publications and high impact medical and bioethics journals and have authored over 200 books, chapters in scholarly books, and chapters in medical textbooks.
